The Akwa Ibom State Government has initiated a comprehensive drive to revitalize basic education across the state. This follows Governor Umo Eno’s approval of wide-ranging reforms designed to modernize the learning environment.

The strategic overhaul targets three primary pillars: a curriculum review, the enhancement of teacher capacity, and the total reconstruction of school infrastructure.

The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk, officially disclosed these developments during a press briefing held at the board’s headquarters in Uyo.

Etuk emphasized that the administration is committed to ensuring that public primary and junior secondary schools provide a competitive standard of education that meets contemporary global requirements.

In a significant financial commitment to the sector, Etuk announced that the state government has approved and released ₦5.9 billion for intervention projects spanning the 2025 and 2026 academic periods.

He noted that this funding represents a departure from previous years’ fragmented renovation efforts. Instead, the board is now focused on a holistic upgrade of school facilities to create a more conducive atmosphere for students.

Beyond physical structures, the SUBEB Chairman highlighted that the reforms include the recruitment of additional qualified teachers to address existing personnel gaps.

This human capital investment is paired with the provision of improved learning facilities and the implementation of rigorous measures to raise teaching standards across the state’s basic education system.

The ongoing transformation aims to bridge the gap between public and private education sectors in Akwa Ibom. By prioritizing teacher welfare and infrastructure, the state government intends to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality foundational learning that prepares them for future academic and professional success.
