Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has announced the dissolution of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu.

The Bayelsa State-born artist, widely celebrated as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” shared the news through a formal statement posted on his Facebook page titled “Public Notice” on Thursday.

Reflecting on the long-term union, Ekiye described the nearly three-decade partnership as a deeply personal journey defined by significant growth, shared experiences, and quiet reflection.

While the milestone marriage has drawn considerable attention from fans and the public, the veteran musician chose not to disclose the specific reasons behind the separation.

According to the singer, the marriage officially came to an end a year ago.

He explained that he deliberately delayed making the development public to allow himself time to process the transition and gain the necessary perspective, clarity, and acceptance that such a profound life change requires.

In his statement, Ekiye expressed a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation regarding the conclusion of this chapter, while simultaneously looking ahead with optimism toward the possibilities of a new season in his life.

Ekiye has remained a towering figure in Nigeria’s gospel music industry for decades, celebrated for pioneering and popularizing Niger Delta-inspired gospel sounds and high-energy performances.

This latest announcement marks the close of a long-standing chapter for the artist as he steps forward into a brand-new path.
