Malaria Control: Akwa Ibom Commits to Higher Investment, Announces June Net Distribution

The Akwa Ibom State Government has pledged to increase investment in the fight against malaria, aiming to sustain the aggressive measures that successfully slashed the state’s malaria prevalence rate.

According to official data, targeted health interventions helped drive down malaria prevalence from 30.1 percent to 15.5 percent in 2025.

This renewed commitment seeks to build on that momentum and further protect residents from the disease.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Ekem John, disclosed this ambitious anti-malaria goal during a recent interaction with journalists.

The briefing was held ahead of a massive health initiative targeting the distribution of 3.9 million insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to every household across the state.

Dr. John expressed delight that Akwa Ibom remains one of the few states in Nigeria to consistently conduct replacement campaigns over successive years, emphasizing the need to intensify efforts to eradicate the malaria burden.
