In a major move to modernize public transit and cushion the impact of rising fuel prices, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced that the first batch of 20 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses will arrive in the state before the end of next week.
The initiative is part of a broader strategic effort by the administration to overhaul and strengthen the state’s transportation network.
Governor Eno shared this update during a media parley with selected journalists, organized to commemorate his third anniversary in office.
He further disclosed that the state government is on track to officially launch full-scale, CNG-powered bus operations by September this year, marking a significant milestone in his administration’s infrastructure agenda.

According to the Governor, the introduction of the new fleet is specifically designed to provide residents with an affordable, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional transportation.
By shifting toward natural gas, the state aims to significantly reduce the financial burden placed on commuters by regular fuel-powered vehicles.
To ensure widespread accessibility, the Governor revealed that comprehensive plans are already underway to construct dedicated CNG bus terminals across all 31 local government areas of the state.
This expansive infrastructure rollout is intended to facilitate seamless intra-state mobility, ensuring that rural and urban communities alike benefit from the subsidized transit system.
Turning his attention to food security, Governor Eno also highlighted the success of the state’s homegrown agricultural initiatives, which he noted have sparked a nationwide “agricultural revolution.”
He commended residents for increasingly utilizing available land to cultivate crops for both household consumption and commerce, while encouraging everyone to remain committed to farming to achieve total self-sufficiency.
