The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially closed the sale of its Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the 2027 presidential ticket.

Party sources revealed that the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, was the sole aspirant to purchase the forms before the deadline.

Obi, who recently defected to the NDC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is now widely anticipated to emerge as the party’s consensus presidential standard-bearer for the upcoming general election.

In a statement signed by the National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC announced a one-week extension for the collection of Expression of Interest Forms, but strictly for other elective positions.

The deadline, originally set for Sunday, May 17, 2026, has been moved to midnight on Sunday, May 24, 2026, applying exclusively to aspirants eyeing Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly seats.

The party explicitly emphasized that no further extensions will be granted, urging all participants to strictly adhere to the updated timeline.

According to the party’s official schedule, the screening and pre-qualification interviews for aspirants are set to commence today, Tuesday, May 19, and will run through Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Aspiring candidates have been directed to appear at designated venues nationwide with six copies of all required documents.

These credentials include educational certificates, proof of age, passport photographs, voter’s cards, NDC membership cards, and detailed curricula vitae.

Following successful screening, the collection and return of final Nomination Forms will take place between May 20 and May 26, 2026.

The NDC further disclosed that its Screening Committee will evaluate candidates based on competence, character, local peculiarities, and the overall alignment with the electorate’s wishes.

Additionally, the committee has been mandated to factor in the party’s affirmative action policy, which champions increased representation for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities.

As the process unfolds, the leadership has encouraged aspirants to embrace consensus-building, reiterating that only cleared individuals will be eligible to finalize their nomination bids.
