Ransom Delivery Gone Wrong: Terrorists Abduct OPC Leader and Companions

Confusion and anxiety have gripped the Oko-Irese community in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following the abduction of Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, a prominent chieftain of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), alongside two other individuals.

The incident occurred while Fabiyi, a driver, and an associate were reportedly en route to deliver a hefty ransom and supplies intended to secure the release of a previously kidnapped victim.

Sources revealed that the team was ambushed by heavily armed men while conveying approximately ₦30 million in cash, five motorcycles, and three bags of rice.

Tragically, information emerging after the ambush suggests that the victim they were attempting to rescue had already been killed by the kidnappers—a devastating reality unknown to the ransom delivery team before they set out.

The attackers reportedly stage-managed the drop-off, directing Fabiyi’s team deep into a forested area along a route connecting Kwara and Kogi states before seizing them at gunpoint.

Emerging reports also indicate that the OPC chieftain had been strictly warned against embarking on the journey during a spiritual consultation, an advisory that was unfortunately disregarded.

Furthermore, the incident was initially kept under wraps and not immediately reported to law enforcement.

When contacted regarding the incident, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, stated that the command had not yet been formally briefed on the abduction of the OPC member.

He assured the public, however, that the police would launch a full investigation into the matter as soon as an official report is lodged.
