The Labour Party has officially activated its machinery for the upcoming nationwide congresses by announcing the leadership and composition of its electoral subcommittees.
In a statement released on Tuesday by Ken Asogwa, the Senior Special Adviser to the National Chairman on media, the party named several key figures to lead these panels. Prominent appointees include Ekong Philip Solomon for Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Iheanacho Obioma for Abia, Chief Tony Asuoha for Anambra, Francis Kim for Adamawa, Malam Mustapha Adamu for Bauchi, amongst others .
These subcommittees are tasked with managing a high-stakes, rapid-fire electoral schedule beginning on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The process will kick off with ward congresses, followed immediately by local government elections on April 24, and concluding with state-level congresses on April 25. This sequence is designed to streamline the internal selection process and build momentum leading toward the final national gathering.
In a direct charge to the newly appointed members, National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman underscored the necessity of “fairness, transparency, and integrity.” She reminded the officials that their conduct must mirror the party’s foundational pillars of social justice and equal opportunity. Usman emphasized that the credibility of the Labour Party rests on the diligence of these committees, urging them to uphold the highest ethical standards throughout the voting process.
Following the state-level elections, the party will shift its focus to the National Convention, which is slated for April 28, 2026, in Umuahia, Abia State. Party leadership has reassured supporters and the general public that all logistical arrangements are finalized to ensure a seamless transition. By establishing these subcommittees, the Labour Party aims to deliver a hitch-free convention that reinforces its commitment to democratic excellence.
