Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced a major upward review of the state’s student bursary scheme, proposing an increase from the current ₦50,000 to ₦200,000 for students across tertiary institutions.
The upward adjustment is slated to take effect upon his re-election for a second term in office.
In addition to the general student allocation, the Governor revealed a special tier for students pursuing professional and rigorous disciplines.
Under the proposed policy, undergraduates studying medicine, law, and engineering will receive an elevated payout of ₦250,000 to better support their demanding academic workloads and materials.
Governor Eno made these declarations while fielding questions during the high-profile second day of the 2026 Ibom Ignite conference.
The event, which has drawn notable stakeholders, youths, and intellectuals, is currently taking place at the iconic Ibom Hall in the state capital, Uyo.
The announcement was met with thunderous applause from the audience, particularly student representatives and youth leaders in attendance.
Stakeholders have lauded the initiative as a timely intervention that demonstrates the administration’s commitment to educational advancement and human capital development amidst current economic realities.
With this policy shift, the Akwa Ibom State Government aims to significantly cushion the financial burden on parents and guardians while encouraging academic excellence among undergraduates.
Further details regarding the registration framework and implementation timeline are expected to be released by the Ministry of Education in due course.
